I must begin by letting you know that I have never been a Sex & The City Fan. I couldn’t list the main characters if you asked me. I know Mr. Big is the on again/off again boyfriend (rather, husband…that’s how out of it I am) of the main character played by Sarah Jessica Parker, although I don’t know her name in the show. I am, however, an avid Peloton rider. Note: I did not say a Peloton “fan.” While I love the bike and ride every day, I am not a fan of the wokeism pushed by the company and most of the instructors. I have a limited list of instructors that I will ride with. It’s a killer workout, so I compromise.
In my defense, my husband bought the bike back in early 2019 before we were married, so I let him carry the guilt for buying woke. He’s also the one who purchased Peloton stock during the early days of Covid when all the gyms were closed, and people couldn’t buy Peloton bikes and treadmills fast enough. Yesterday that Peloton stock took a big hit…all because Mr. Big died in the shower, shortly after he completed his 1000th Peloton ride, featuring real Peloton instructor Jess King (one of the most woke instructors).
Mr. Big is a fictional character who died of cardiac arrest after riding his Peloton bike. And somehow in the real-world people took this very seriously. I would like to use this example to point out just how far from reality our society is these days.
Two days ago, on December 9th, actor Jussie Smollett was convicted of faking a hate crime and lying to police. When this first happened our media, public figures and celebrities all spoke out on Jussie’s behalf. Nobody questioned the truth of his story and those who did were homophobic white supremacists. For months, and even still, after the verdict, people are sticking with this fictional story that was more far-fetched than the worst Lifetime movie.
Our society has a difficult time distinguishing truth from fiction. We see it everywhere. A couple days ago this tutorial from Ulta showed up in my Facebook feed. A bearded MAN giving makeup tutorials. Sure, men can wear makeup – you do you – however, many cosmetics companies are taking on this trend of showing men or transgenders doing traditional women things. This effort to “normalize” men doing women things is part of this fictional society we are living in.
Back to the Peloton story…
As if it weren’t bad enough, adding insult to injury, a Peloton spokesperson comes out with a public statement addressing the death of a fictional character on a tv show, speaking about them as though they were a real person.
Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum of Peloton said in a statement on Friday:
“Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in Season 6. These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death.”
She also suggested the Peloton may have delayed a cardiac event for Mr. Big.
“More than 80% of all cardiac-related deaths are preventable through lifestyle, diet and exercise modification. The good news is Peloton helps you track heart rate while your ride, so you can do it safely.”
If it seems ludicrous that a Peloton spokesperson must issue such a detailed statement as if responding to the death of a real person, that’s because it is. And I can assure you, it is highly likely that at least one person has died after completing a ride on a Peloton bike. And not because the Peloton caused it but because cardiac events that lead to death can happen to high-risk people after completing a strenuous cardiovascular workout.
While this story is partly humorous, it is a prime example of just how irrational people have become about normal life events. This is the dumbing down of the American people. Everywhere we look it seems there is more fiction than truth.
These are days we must stand for truth. We must use discernment. We must not play along with this fictional game. Please be strong and speak up against these lies. It takes great courage in these times we’re living in to be one of the few people who is willing to stand up and say: “That is NOT truth.”
Be courageous!
