LD 227 is also known as the “shield law”, which has been enacted into several other states including California and Washington. The shield law literally shields providers and anyone helping a minor child access abortion or “gender affirming care” from any kind of legal action, circumventing and disregarding the laws of the child’s home state (think Idaho child goes with adult who is not their parent to Washington for puberty blocking hormones – there is no legal recourse).
On Friday, March 15th, US Senators Laphonza Butler and Tina Smith introduced a new bill titled, the “Pride in Mental Health Act.” They claim this bill “would strengthen mental health and crisis intervention resources for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth.”
Legislators across America are working to adopt policies for K12 public education called the “Freedom to Read Act.” This is in direct response to the parent movement across the country where parents are showing up to school board meetings, reciting passages from books in their students’ schools that are sexually explicit, age inappropriate, and controversial.
