House Passes H.R. 8 Anti-Gun Legislation

House Passes H.R. 8 Anti-Gun Legislation

While the Democrats were busy ramming through the “Covid Relief” Stimulus Package this week, they also moved H.R. 8 to the House…and PASSED it…with the help of 8 “Republicans.”

H.R. 8 is an anti-gun law that will require universal background checks and mandatory waiting periods for any American citizen.

It shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm.

The universal background check aspect of this bill is troublesome, and the fact that it can get held up by the FBI “indefintely”. Even more cause for concern: the information gathered to conduct the ‘background check’ (including the name and address of every single gun owner in the country)  will be stored in a government database.  As time goes on, the government will create a master database. This database clearly paves the way for future gun control and very likely…gun confiscation.

This bill narrowly passed the House with a 227-202, thanks to the help of 8 “Republicans.”

These eight Republicans contain the usual list of suspects.
Vern Buchanan (Fla.) 202-225-5015
Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) 202-225-4276
Maria Salazar (Fla.) 202-225-3931
Andrew Garbarino (N.Y.) 202-225-7896
Chris Smith (N.J.) 202-225-3765
Fred Upton (Mich.) 202-225-3761
Carlos Gimenez (Fla.) 202-225-2278
Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) 202-225-3635

On the heels of H.R. 8 yesterday was H.R. 1446 which would expand the current three-day-maximum waiting period connected to background checks to a ten-day minimum and thirty-day maximum waiting period.

The current law say the FBI has 3 days to prove that the applicant is disqualified to own a gun. If it takes longer than 3 days the applicant is given the “green light.” This new law would do away with the 3 day period and expand it to as long as 30 days.

These bills now move to the Senate where it will no doubt be a real battle. It’s critical that you write to your senators and let them know that you OPPOSE these bills and that you want them to protect your Second Amendment rights.
