On June 7, 2025, the National Education Association (NEA) will hold its “Freedom to Learn & Teach Truth Day of Action,” promoting the right to teach and learn without “censorship.” The NEA frames this as a fight against politicians who “ban books” and “exclude certain kids,” but the real agenda centers on advancing progressive ideologies—like DEI, gender theory, comprehensive sexual education and identity politics—at the expense of academic fundamentals.

Rebranding Ideology as Truth
Ironically, the NEA claims critics of these movements are trying to “divide and distract” from the failures of politicians, yet many politicians, parents and educators alike are simply pushing back against classrooms being used for activism rather than academics. Promoting “people’s history” lessons and screenings of book-ban documentaries may sound educational, but they are pushing a one-sided narrative rooted in social justice and political activism rather than balanced, rigorous instruction.

Academic Decline, Ideological Surge
Speaking of failure! At a time when student achievement is plummeting—only a third of 4th and 8th graders are proficient in reading and math, according to NAEP—the NEA’s emphasis on activism is extremely troubling. U.S. students now rank 20th in reading and 28th in math globally. Yet instead of prioritizing literacy or numeracy, schools are consumed with equity audits, pronoun policies, and identity-based content.
Despite their claims of helping marginalized students, the achievement gap remains wide. Black and Hispanic students are still trailing their peers, and employers report recent grads lack critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The focus on things like Critical Race Theory, gender and sexual ideology, and Social Emotional Learning instead of foundational knowledge doesn’t close gaps—it widens them.
Let’s Refocus: Learning Over Indoctrination
As June 7 approaches, parents should ask: Are public schools preparing our kids for real life—or politicizing their education? With academic outcomes falling and ideology taking center stage, it’s time to rethink our approach.
If your local public school is prioritizing activism over academics, you don’t have to settle. More families than ever are choosing to pull their kids out of failing systems and take control of their education through homeschooling or alternative models that emphasize core skills, critical thinking, and values aligned with your family.
Don’t wait for the system to fix itself – that’s not going to happen. Your child’s future is too important.
Speak up, take action, and consider a better path.
We believe that it’s our duty as citizens and taxpayers to fight to fix the failing public education system. But we do not believe children should stay in the “line of fire” – homeschool your child but stay in the fight by being active in your local school board. Attend meetings. Make public comments. Run for office! We are the solution!
